Walking with the most unlikely leaders!

So here I am, cap in hand asking you to support a cause and before you sigh with guilt and another donation I need to tell you why its so important.

I've led a very lucky life, not wanted for anything, as a young girl I was encouraged by loving parents to do anything I wanted in life. It wasn't until quite late in life that really sunk in for me.. A combination of a great husband on the same path, life's crazy challenges, meeting some pretty incredible people along the way and now working for a company that is quite simply "Amazing" and led by a woman who knows no bounds.

I'm the executive assistant to Tania Austin - CEO of Decjuba, who contsantly pushes us outside our comfort zone, asks us to be better people and throw 100% at it - as she does. In the past 2 years Decjuba as a company, have raised over $300,000 for The Hunger Project and continue to raise funds and awareness through our stores Australia and NZ wide.

In January this year,  I was asked to go to India with the Decjuba Leadership team and see first hand what "The Hunger Project" are delivering by their work with women and teenage girls in the rual villages of Rhajastan. We met the most unlikely leaders, women with no education, young and old and came away with a new sense of what really is achievable in any situation with little more than the inner voice that says.... "I Can".

Encouraged by the men in my life to go on this trip, I set aside my minor fear of flying and headed off to meet these incredible women....

I mention the men that encouraged me to go becasue its important to understand that's not life in India. There, women are forced into child marriage at very young ages and are not encouraged to get an education. Female births are looked down upon and girls and women are last on the foodchain causing chronic malnourishment and yet what we saw and heard were the most remarkable story's of the ability to get things done - no matter what you have or have not.

These women had an incredible focus to achieve what they set out to do - There were no obstacles, there were no excuses. They just got it done - Often over a long period of time... but they never faulted. They drew on the other women of the Villages to help and to work together.

The Hunger Project, are not a charity which offers handouts to ward off hunger. They take nothing into the Villages as gifts and we were also asked not to take gifts- They are educators and are asking the women to speak up and find a voice, to understand they can create great change -They believe in a world where every woman, man and child leads a healthy, fulfilling life of self-reliance and dignity.

Indeed we saw what incredible change they are making and were very humbled by how they went about it.

I feel so indebted at being shown this opportunity by Tania, the team at Decjuba and THP that I have committed to personally raising $5000 to help them continue their amazing work.

I'm hoping you can help me with a donation of any kind as I start this fundraising goal and I promise to fill you in on so many more amazing stories along the way. I know we can't all be giving large amounts so Im asking many to give a little- reaching out to my whole "Village" of people and stretching as far as we can to be a larger collective and make this $5000 goal a reality.

Thanks in advance to all that support this incredible cause simply becasue I asked you to.

You are creating real change even if you think you aren't.

Lisa A .  xx
