Swimming for The Hunger Project
On the 24th February we will be swimming in the Rottnest Channel Swim. Highly regarded worldwide and one of Western Australia's iconic events, the Rottnest Channel Swim is a 19.7km open water swim from Cottesloe Beach to Rottnest Island. We are taking on this challenge as a team and we are swimming to raise money for The Hunger Project whose aim is to end hunger by the year 2030.
The funds we raise will go directly to the work of The Hunger Project in Malawi. Women in Malawi often have to walk the distance we are swimming to give birth to their child at the nearest hospital. Many give birth along the way, some die in childbirth. The commitment of Rolands Kaotcha the head of THP Malawi is that no woman would ever have to walk that distance to give birth and the work of the Hunger Project aims to make that possible.
We have been training for months, its a big challenge for each of us but as we swim over to the island we will be thinking about the courage of the women in Malawi.
